Body found in Lampasas River could be missing Taylor man

Body found in Belton could be Taylor man.

BELTON A preliminary autopsy is being conducted to determine whether a body found by a fisherman in the Lampasas River Jan. 19 is a missing Taylor man.

According to Taylor Police Department, Eric Martinets, 30, has not been seen since Jan. 17.

Belton Police Department officials said they received a call at 5:28 p.m. on Thursday about a man face down in the river, near the Interstate-35 Bridge, which caused the southbound frontage road to be closed briefly that evening.

“Police confirmed that the man was deceased and matches the description of a missing person from Taylor,” officials said. “A positive identification is pending.”

Paul Romer, Belton’s director of communications, said the body matches the description of Martinets, but it was too soon to say for sure.

“We cannot say definitively until an autopsy comes back and confirms it,” Romer said.

According to police reports, the deceased male had a head injury consistent with a high fall and was sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences for a preliminary autopsy.

The Morgan’s Point Dive Team assisted with the recovery of the body.
