Improvements have begun on two Coupland roads.

“This project just gives me such great enjoyment,” said Williamson County Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles.

On Feb. 7, Boles joined Mayor Jack Piper, the City Council and community members to break ground on upgrades to Muery Street and a portion of South Broad Street. The project is funded through the county’s 2019 road bond for $519,919.00.

“We hope to get it completed in a very short time period, perhaps within the next couple of months if we have good weather (and) we get all the utilities moved in time,” said Boles.

The project consists of replacing the existing two-lane, 14-foot wide asphalt road with a two-lane, 20-foot wide passage. The pavement will have an improved structural section with a treated subgrade, flex base and hot-mix asphalt.

“This is investment in infrastructure that some of our smaller communities haven’t seen in decades,” said Boles, “and I am so honored and proud to be here.”

Improvements on South Broad will be from Elliot Street to Muery. The latter is between CR 277 and Broad.

“Residents have acknowledged that these two streets are the worst in Coupland,” said Piper. “Residents have been very patient while waiting for something to be done to these two streets while realizing the cost to renovate is more than the city could take on. So, we are very grateful and wish to thank Williamson County and Commissioner Russ Boles for including Coupland in the Williamson County 2019 bond projects.”

The design engineer for the project is CONSOR. The contractor is Chasco Constructors.

“When we moved forward with the voter-approved 2019 road bond projects, I made sure that our smaller cities on the east side of the county were included,” said Boles. “These communities are important to Williamson County, and it is a privilege when we can partner with them on projects like this.”

Other road projects are ongoing in east Williamson County. Boles mentioned a recently completed upgrade in Thrall that improved South Bounds Street in front of Thrall ISD.

“We are currently finishing a project in Bartlett,” added Boles. “(I’m) very excited to work towards that.”
