JONAH—Just before the New Year, the community took some dancing steps to bring its historic community center back to life.

On Thursday, Dec. 28, Shine on Performing Arts and Jonah Community Center hosted “Home for the Holidays: A Concert in the Country,” an evening of swing dancing, singing and desserts to celebrate the end of the year and raise money for the center, located at 40 County Road 126.

“Our goal is to bring performing arts classes and camps to our community,” said organizers.

According to Emily Calasopa, an administrator for the Jonah, TX – Community Facebook page, the event was one of several ways people can help fund more programming and renovations for the historic center.

“The Jonah Center is a historical building located east of Georgetown, TX, on Highway 29,” she wrote. “Formerly the Jonah School, this amazing building features several large classrooms, renovated bathrooms and a large event room with a stage.

Join us for one of our community outreach events, rent the space, and help us preserve this beautiful building for another 100 years.”
