Residents interested in running for the Taylor City Council in the May 6 general election take note: The filing period to apply is coming up.

From Jan. 18 – Feb. 17, those interested in vying for the atlarge seat may submit an application for a place on the ballot.

According to the city, Taylor is divided into 4 districts, with a council member representing each of them, as well as an at large seat under a Single Member District form of government.

Currently, the atlarge position is held by Dwayne Ariola, who was elected to the seat in May 2017 and re-elected in November 2020.

On his Facebook page, Ariola announced Jan. 3 that he will be running for reelection once again.

To be eligible, individuals must be at least 18 years of age, a registered voter, a resident of Taylor continuously for the preceding six months before the filing deadline, have no felony convictions, must not hold another public office for which they receive wages, among other requirements.
