THE HUDDLE

Welcome back to the Huddle. Today we are going to discuss how the Hutto Hippos are going to bounce back from their districtopening loss in a big way.

The Hippos lost their first district matchup to Harker Heights right before the holiday break, and that could be part of their loss, and they were just ready to enjoy their break, but at the end of the day, a loss is a loss.

That being said, the hippos have a game against Temple Tuesday night that offers an opportunity to even up their district record. This is a prideful team with a coach who is old school, and I’ll say it again, demands greatness.

Tuesday is a home game for the Hippos, so they enjoy some home cooking and will look for a great start to 2023 with a win. Temple is no slouch and has shown they are more than capable of rising to the occasion when it comes to district play.

But the Hippos not only have a 0-1 record in district that they are looking to correct, but they are also carrying a two-game losing streak that they are looking to end. As I said earlier, the Hippos are a prideful team, and those two stats alone are enough to have a massive chip on their shoulder.

They are also playing at home Tuesday, and this is where I am going to explain why I think they will win big. On their home court, the Hippos are 4-0 and have always dominated those games from the opening tip-off.

In addition to that, they have a coach who coaches extremely hard and knows when they are not playing up to standard. The holidays are behind us, and it is time to get back to business, and their coach recognizes that because he knows how good his team is and knows they can be in the mix later this season.

I expect the Hippos to be buzzing around on defense and moving the ball and knocking down big shots on offense, and they will jump back into the win column because of it. The Hippos have district games the rest of the way this season, and they need this win to get back on track because they are too good not to.

Make sure to check out Sunday’s paper to see if I was right or wrong about this team and this game, and if you read this far into my column, I would like to extend a Happy New Years to all of our readers and their families.
