The Taylor Ducks have found their rhythm again, picking up two big wins over the holiday break.

The Ducks defeated the Travis Rebels (Austin) 72-55 on Wednesday, Dec. 28, and the Elgin Wildcats 51-46 on Thursday Dec. 29.

The two wins ended a four-game losing streak that the Ducks had to sit with while celebrating Christmas. The Ducks took the break to find a way to win again, and it paid off, picking up two wins right before another little break before their next district game.

The first game started, and all of the Ducks’ recent frustrations manifested into production on both ends of the court. The Ducks took the early lead and never let go and had fun doing it.

Head coach Stephen Gibson said before the break, he wants his team to fix the little things because if they do all the little things right, they are going to be a great basketball team. Rebounding was one of the things Gibson mentioned, and the Ducks definitely won the battle of the glass, paving the way for a large lead and big win.

The Elgin game saw the Ducks build on that momentum and pick up another win. The Ducks continued to adjust and work on perfecting the little things that Gibson talked about.

Rebounding was another prominent factor, along with easy layups and free throws being factors in this game for the Ducks. This was the Ducks’ second matchup with Elgin, and they were able to close out their season series with a perfect 2-0 record.

Gibson said he told his team to close their eyes and think about what they can do to help the team be better after their first district loss to La Grange. After discussing the matter with his team, Gibson said every player on the team emphasized rebounding, free throws or easy layups, and they came out of the Christmas break showing that they are and will continue to work on those things.

The Ducks will resume district play on Friday, Jan. 6, when they travel to play Giddings, looking to even up their district record.
