The Thrall Tigerettes finished in second place at the Troup Tournament of the holiday break, and they even earned some individual awards.

The Tigerettes started the tournament with a 37-22 win over the Brook Hill Guard (Bullard), following that up with a 48-41 win over the tournament host Troup Tigers, but unfortunately, they lost to the Mexia Black Cats to end the tournament.

The Tigerettes’ game against Brook Hill was low scoring but saw the Tigerettes build a 10-3 lead in the first quarter that paved the way for their win. Brook Hill showed some pushback before halftime, but the third quarter saw the Tigerettes score 15 points to Brook Hill’s six, all but ensuring victory.

The second game was a bit different for the Tigerettes, finding themselves trailing 16-10 after the first quarter. The second and third quarters saw the Tigerettes lean heavily on their defense, which led to production on the offensive-end of the court.

The Tigerettes’ defense helped them battle back from the first-quarter deficit and pick up their second win, setting them up for a possible 3-0 record at the tournament. The Tigerettes went into the last matchup against Mexia, looking to close out the tournament with a third win, but that was not the case.

Mexia put up 15 points to the Tigerettes eight and were able to carry that momentum all the way to the final buzzer. The Tigerettes struggled to muster up any offense or defense in the last game and was their ultimate demise leading to a loss.

The Tigerettes did not win the big prize as a team at the tournament but still walked away with a few individual awards. Sophomore Kassie Jackson and freshman Nevaeh Irvin were both selected to the All-Tournament team for their efforts in the tournament.

The TIgerettes relied on the defense throughout the tournament, and one of their players was selected as the top defender in the tournament. Freshman Brynn Leschber was selected as the Top Defender of the tournament, but Thrall walked away from Troup with one more award.

The Thrall fans were picked as the best fans of the tournament because of the support they provided throughout the tournament.

With the tournament over, the Tigerettes will ring in the New Year on Tuesday, Jan. 3, when they take on Bartlett at home in a district matchup.
