A report released earlier this week by the state highway patrol sheds more light on a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 79 that claimed the life of a Thorndale woman.

Stephanie Guzman, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene Dec. 16 at 79 and Limmer Loop.

Located in Frame Switch, the spot is midway between Taylor and Hutto.

According to the report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Guzman was behind the wheel of a 2016 GMC shortly before 9 a.m. when her vehicle was involved in a collision with a Ford F-350 driven by another woman.

“The GMC proceeded into the intersection of Limmer Loop and U.S. 79 in an attempt to turn left to travel east on U.S. 79,” according to the preliminary report from DPS. “The GMC failed to yield the right of way to the Ford and was struck on the driver side.”

The other motorist involved in the accident was released at the scene, according to DPS.

Other agencies assisting troopers at the accident included the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation continues, law-enforcement officers said.

Officials said there were no immediate plans to install a light at that intersection.

“Safety is a top priority for TxDOT,” said Brad Wheelis, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Transportation, which is the agency responsible for that section of roadway. “There is a flashing yellow beacon on US 79 at Limmer Loop to alert drivers of crossing traffic and to urge caution through the intersection. While there are no immediate plans to install a traffic signal, TxDOT reviews every fatality crash to determine whether safety enhancements are needed. Our engineering team will do so in this case as well. We also encourage drivers to make responsible decisions and drive safely by avoiding distractions, obeying the speed limit, buckling up and staying alert.”

Williamson County Commissioner Russ Boles said the county is also getting feedback from the community on area roads.

“As Williamson County continues to be one of the fastestgrowing counties in the nation, our cities and other partners are running to catch up with their infrastructure,” Boles said. “Our communities, our partners and our citizens are speaking to me about it. Transportation safety has been a high priority for me as commissioner, and I plan to keep it as a high priority in the new year.”
