A fire that ripped through a home Monday afternoon at Fisher and Kimbro streets may have displaced up to seven people, but no one suffered any injuries, firefighters said.
The alarm was sounded at 1:40 p.m. for a blaze consuming 901 Fisher St., said Daniel Baum, Taylor Fire Department chief.
“From what we understand, there were potentially six or seven people living in the house,” Baum said. “We are still trying to straighten all that out, and we called for the Red Cross to provide assistance to the people that live there.”
No cause of the fire has been determined, but the investigation is ongoing, Baum said.
“We have a general area; we know it was in or around the garage area,” Baum said. “Besides that, there are still witnesses and people involved that we have yet to interview.”
Firefighters faced several challenges bringing the conflagration under control, the chief said.
“When we arrived on scene, the structure was heavily involved in fire, mostly from the garage area and mostly extending into the house,” Baum said. “Because of the conditions of the fire, we couldn’t make entry into the house right away, but according to the resident, there was nobody in the house, so we were reasonably confident that everyone was accounted for.”
Baum said the building’s structure prompted first responders to adopt “a defensive attack.”
“We had to fight the fire from the outside of the structure because of the conditions, and it took a good hour and a half to get the fire under control, just because of the extent of it,” Baum said.. “It was a little bit challenging because the house was added onto at some point, so you basically had two levels of roof.”
