Police are seeking a 19-year-old woman charged with murder in the death last week of a man shot in the back after being attacked and left unconscious on the ground.
According to Taylor police, Esmeralda Renee Alderete, 19, has been named in an arrest warrant in connection with the Dec. 12 slaying of Enrique Lopez Estrada, 26, of Taylor.
Alderete should be considered armed and dangerous, officers said.
Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to contact the Police Department at 512-352-5551.
According to an autopsy, Estrada suffered a single, fatal wound from a .22-caliber bullet. Witnesses told police Estrada had fallen and passed out after an altercation.
Police originally carried the death as “suspicious” pending the outcome of the forensic examination. Chief Henry Fluck said there was no external bleeding.
"It was not visible. It (wound) wasn't found until the autopsy occurred," the chief said.
The examination showed the bullet entered the victim’s back under the shoulder.
"It went down and hit some vital organs, to include the heart," Fluck said. "Probably, death was rather immediate."
According to reports, officers received a call at 7:11 p.m. Dec. 12 about an unresponsive man in the yard of a home in the 1400 block of Jones Street. When officers arrived, paramedics were attempting to revive Estrada.
Estrada had been assaulted twice and then shot once, investigators said.
During the investigation, no one told police they heard a gunshot, officials said.
Those involved in the incident appear to have been acquainted with each other, Fluck said.
No motive for the tragedy has been released.
