Taylor PD earns national recognition for NNO

The Taylor Police Department has earned national recognition from the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization that works with law enforcement, neighborhood watch groups and others.

The Taylor Police Department has earned national recognition from the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization that works with law enforcement, neighborhood watch groups and others.

“Taylor is a national award winner for national night out,” said Chief Henry Fluck. “We were ranked fourth in the state of Texas for cities of our size and 17th in the nation for cities of our size.”

This year, the city celebrated NNO on Oct. 4 with assorted block parties around the city, after a two-year pause due to the pandemic.

Prior to this time, the city was on a winning streak in its category, Fluck said.

“Before we had the break for two years for COVID-19, we had 10 consecutive years, from 2008-2019,” Fluck said.

Fluck said his department values the National Night Out program.

“It’s a great community program,” Fluck said. “We think it’s beneficial to the community for many reasons. It helps people get to know each other in their neighborhood. It makes a statement against drugs and crime. It is a great opportunity for police to engage with community members right in their own neighborhoods, officers and neighbors, and get to know each other in a non-adversarial situation like a traffic stop.”

Fluck said he is heartened to see this program and the recognition coming back to Taylor once again.

“I would like to express my appreciation for them supporting the police department in this important policing program,” Fluck said.
