Before you buy a bunch of “stuff” for family members and friends this season, ask them what they really need.
Maybe they need help with a utility bill, car payment or the rent. Maybe they need a kid-free night and could use a free babysitter.
Maybe they could use a home cooked meal.
Maybe they need someone to listen to over a cup of coffee or tea.
Maybe they don’t know what to ask for and are too embarrassed to ask.
Maybe you can be the one to give them exactly what they need this season, rather than things they’ll never use.
But if you want to shop, please shop local and support our community.
Keep in mind not everyone is filled with magic this season. For some people, this is rather a dark time. Your kindness is needed more than ever before. Please think about including people who would celebrate alone.
Listen to those who seem hopeless and alone.
Always remember there is goodness everywhere and kindness matters.
If you are feeling hopeless this season, please call 988. It’s a nationwide Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. They are available 24 hours a day, and English and Spanish speaking trained professionals will listen.
Remember the world is much better with you in it. Please ask for help if you need it.
