The Lady Ducks predistrict record may not be the most glamorous record but they played tough competition in order to prepare for their district schedule.

Head coach Lawrence Bailey said he has a young team and wants to play against tougher competition to get his team ready for district faster. Bailey’s plan played off as his team came out strong against Austin Achieve and started their district schedule 1-0.

The Lady Ducks went into Tuesday’s game with a chip on their shoulder looking to prove some people wrong. They started the game and the Lady Ducks played hard and jumped to a early lead that they carried all the way to the final buzzer.

The Lady Ducks are a young team but one of their seniors showed up in a big way and led them to a big district win. Aliyana Chavis played only 13 minutes Tuesday night but made the most of her opportunity.

Chavis put up 15 points with an 86% field goal percentage while adding four rebounds, two assists and 2 steals to her stat line Tuesday night. Chavis’ outstanding offensive output seemingly inspired her teammates as Kionayh Rivers led the team with five rebounds with Sophia Fisher leading the Lady Ducks with five assists Tuesday night. In addition to the great statical night, the Lady Ducks one player did not make an impact on the score sheet but Bailey said she played really well Tuesday night. Mia Duncan was named the Charge Champion after their game against Austin Achieve for her fantastic efforts on the court.

The Lady Ducks will continue their district play on Friday, Dec. 16, at 6:15 p.m. when they welcome in Manor New Tech where Bailey said fans are encouraged to wear an ugly Christmas sweater to get into the holiday spirit.
