Colby Marek Burns, 52, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, in San Antonio.

Colby Marek Burns, 52, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, in San Antonio. She was born July 9, 1970, in Fort Hood, to James and Diane Sims Marek.

She was a graduate of J.M. Hanks High School in El Paso and received her Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University in Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences.

She worked nine years at Cott Beverages, rising to senior marketing project manager, then 10 years at Premier Town and Country Real Estate as a realtor. An active member of Shearer Hills Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school and helped guide their Mothers of Preschoolers program. She coached youth soccer, and was an avid supporter of her sons’ football, basketball and track teams at The Christian School at Castle Hills, as well as their Boy Scout troop.

Colby was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bob and Moncy Sims of Taylor, and Ted and Della Marek of Rice’s Crossing.

She is survived by her children, Barron Dean Burns (18) and Ralston Boyd Burns (15); her parents, Jim and Diane Marek of El Paso; brother, Raley and sister-inlaw Candy Marek of College Station; nieces, Ariece Flavin (husband Tyler), Atlee Schumann (husband Chandler) of San Antonio; and nephew, Weston Marek of College Station. She will also be dearly missed by her grandniece, Kate Flavin; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and the many friends whose lives she has touched. If you knew Colby, you knew her infectious laughter, you enjoyed her funloving nature and you knew you were loved.

Services will be held Monday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. at Shearer Hills Baptist Church, 12615 San Pedro Avenue in San Antonio.
