As the cold of January approaches, a local charity is seeking to warm up the community through a hot bowl of chili.

The Taylor Lions Foundation, the charitable arm of the Lions Club, is planning their Annual Chili Supper to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 26 at Taylor SPJST Hall, 502 FM 619 in Taylor.

As with past years due to the pandemic, the supper will be a drive-through event featuring bowls of homemade chili with beans or without.

“This event is to support the Lions Club, so we can support our projects,” said club member Erwin Stuaffer. “The thing about the Lions Club that nobody knows is that 100 percent of our money goes to support these projects. There are no administrative costs.

Everything goes out into the community.

Sponsorships are also available for the annual golf tournament, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 26 at Taylor Mustang Creek Golf Course.

Levels vary from $150 or more and will include food and drinks. Sponsorships of $300 or more unlock early-bird pricing for a prepaid 2023 golf team of four-people when payment is received before Jan. 13, 2023.

Since 1940, the Lions Foundation, which is a 501c3 organization, has used its profits for a variety of area causes, including scholarships for Taylor Independent School District, food and financial support to Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry, local eye exams and eyeglasses for kids who cannot afford them, the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville for Children with Disabilities, and many other endeavors.

Tickets to the chili supper will be available after the new year for a $12 donation. Please make checks payable to the Taylor Lions Foundation. For more information, call 512-4130256 or contact lionsclubtaylor@ gmail.com.
