Ansley Reed and Destiny Lewis led the Taylor girls basketball team to a huge district win over Lake Belton on Tuesday, 55-47. The win over the Lady Broncos keeps Taylor in the hunt for a playoff spot.
After one quarter the Lady Ducks asserted their dominance with a 21-9 lead to open the contest.
By the 3:198 mark in the second frame Taylor held strong to a 28-11 lead over the Lady Broncos.
The final two minutes of the quarter saw neither team score. Taylor then took a 32-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The closing moments of the third quarter saw the Lady Ducks still in firm control with a 44-28 lead. Lake Belton ended the frame with a 6-2 run to cut into the Taylor lead 46-34.
In the fourth quarter the Lady Broncos continued to chip away at the Lady Ducks lead. With 2:10 remaining Taylor’s lead was down to 10. At the 37 second mark the advantage was down to seven before Taylor closed the game out.
Reed finished the night with 18 points and four rebounds. Lewis had 14 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two blocks.
Natalie Alderete connected on three free throws and had eight rebounds. A’ja Lucas added four points and seven rebounds. Sophia Fisher tallied eight points.
The Lady Ducks finished off their regular season as they will then play the waiting game to see how the Lady Broncos final two games play out.
