Tommie Garner is a born and raised Taylorite, having served his community through the years in a variety of ways. Now, as a new faculty member at Taylor ISD, Garner is bringing an important new role to the Taylor High School campus. With increasing concerns about school safety across the country, Garner’s focus is on monitoring the halls and parking lots throughout the school day and keeping a close eye on everything.

“I served from Taylor to Austin to Missouri as a police officer with over 27 years of experience,” said Garner.

“Also, I have served and still currently serve as a pastor.”

As well as being a staff member, Garner is also a father. With both of his sons, Jarvis Anderson and Treos Richardson, attending Taylor High School, his new role has given him a more unique connection with his kids.

“I think it’s priceless, just to be able to watch and observe my kids grow and drop them off at school considering all the things that are happening in our country,” he said. “If something were to ever happen, I would want to be here for them.”

Overall, Garner is appreciated by everyone on campus, bringing safety and extra security with a smile every day. Along with his position, he is also someone to go to for help or if you just need someone to talk to, serving as a positive support for students throughout the day.

“Mr. Garner is a joy to have on campus,” said Principal Matthew Wamble. “He has been a huge part of us changing the culture at Taylor High School. He does an amazing job creating positive relationships with students and staff.” Garner’s extensive prior experiences have prepared him well for any situation he may encounter while on campus. With his visible presence, students are able to take full advantage of their learning environment and have peace of mind every day.

“I think having that extra presence and the extra set of eyes to make sure that every student is safe and taking full advantage of the academic and educational opportunities that are being given here,” said Garner. “This is something I am very happy and fortunate to be a part of.”
