Winter Storm Landon’s effects aren’t over, but sunny skies are on the horizon.

The Taylor area is currently recovering from icy roads and bitter wind chills felt by Winter Storm Landon as it passed through the area Thursday, Feb. 3. Subfreezing temperatures remain in the forecast for at least a couple of nights.

“It looks like the freezes should end Monday night (Feb. 7),” said John Taylor, Taylor Texas Weather Network. “Tuesday night (Feb. 8) is a little iffy. It might be close. After that, it looks good.”

Taylor was under a Winter Storm Warning most of Thursday through Friday morning, Feb. 4. Taylor already had a wet week with 4.92 inches falling from last Monday heading into Thursday, Jan. 31 through Feb. 3.

“From that point to the present time, I can’t get any more readings because the rain gauge is all frozen,” said Mr. Taylor.

However, the Taylor Texas Weather Network manager officially recorded 1/10 of an inch of ice accumulation for Taylor.

“It was just about all freezing rain and sleet. There were a few snow grains mixed in there but hardly in there,” said Mr. Taylor to clarify for residents what might see on the ground. “Best way you can tell snow from sleet, when sleet falls and hits something hard, it bounces. When snows, it just lays flat.”

Thursday reached as low as 19.8 degrees, while Friday dipped lower to 18.2 degrees. The National Weather Service warned wind chills could dip into dangerous single digits.

“Although temperatures will remain below to well below normal, a very slow warming trend is expected this weekend through the middle of next week,” said the National Weather Service (NWS) Austin/ San Antonio Office. “Hard freezes with bitterly cold low temperatures are expected all areas on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 5-6).”

Sunday and Monday should reach around 48 degrees during the day before going back down into the mid 20s at night. Tuesday is expected to reach the mid 50s with a low around 33 degrees.

Highs on Wednesday, Feb. 9-10, are forecast around 60 degrees. Lows will be in the mid 30s.
