Artists sought for city public art project

Do you have a fun idea for an art piece to be displayed in city parks? Artists are sought for The Taylor Public Arts Advisory Board’s Portal Project, which is a fun and creative way to bring art to unexpected community areas, such as the hike and bike trail, by decorating the elevated manhole covers along the route. The Portal Project already spans several manhole covers along the trail, starting from Eleventh and Washburn streets and heading south and east.

A wide variety of designs are already in place created by local artists working individually or in teams to bring their ideas to life.

This project is in the first phase, but the city is planning to continue the progress all the way to the bottom of the trail at Fannie Robinson Park. Afterwards, officials hope to expand north towards and through Murphy Park.

Artists with an idea for a portal are encouraged to submit their original designs by printing out a template out to color in, or they may complete their own version digitally. After the design is finished, artists may scan it, and email it to the board at at [email protected] with “Portal Project” in the subject.

People may also use that email address if they have any questions.
