Charges have been dropped against a former business owner in a case where police said they found suspected drugs at his downtown property, an attorney said.
The narcotics belonged to someone else, said David White of the Law Office of David D. White, who represents Samuel Adams, former owner of Trade Up in Taylor.
“I’m glad Williamson County (prosecuting) attorneys pursued this and justice prevailed,” White said.
According to records, Adams was arrested at his business in July on an outstanding warrant, then was later served a second warrant charging him with manufacture/deliver/ possession with intent to deliver.
Officers said the charge was filed after they searched the business and found a cosmetics bag with two baggies of large clear shards, which police believe were methamphetamines.
The contents of one bag registered12.8 grams and the other was 4 grams. Officers also found a digital scale, two glass pipes with suspected methamphetamine residue and three empty baggies the same size as the first.
Police said they also found a glass cork bottle top with 4 grams of suspected methamphetamines inside the cosmetics bag.
White said after collecting statements from witnesses and finding other evidence, the charges were dismissed.
“A third party stashed the drugs in the store while (Adams) was being arrested,” White said.
He said officers wrongly assumed the narcotics belonged to Adams, creating a worst-case scenario for his client.
