With both teams having eight wins the Ducks and Lady Ducks basketball teams gear up to get district games under way.

The Taylor girls were in district action this past Friday hosting Salado. On Jan. 11 the girls host Jarrell, who has already notched 20 wins this season. The girls then take to the road to face Lake Belton. Jan. 18 Taylor returns home to take on Burnet, then wrap January on the road with district games at Salado and Jarrell. The Lady Ducks final home game will open February in their second game against Lake Belton. Taylor will close out the regular season on the road against Burnet on Feb. 4.

“We are excited to get the district season going. The schedule that was put together and the hard work these ladies have put in, all has been for this moment,” said coach Lawrence Bailey. “We have seen glimpses of how great this team really is. I have five seniors on this team who have never experienced playoffs. It is my personal mission, to get these girls in the playoffs.” The Lady Ducks district has

The Lady Ducks district has one fewer school than the boys so the fight for a postseason spot will be a little more challenging.

“This district is tougher than I thought coming in. I feel all the teams are even across the board. As my assistant Coach Reed reiterates to our girls everyday, it’s going to come down to effort. Who wants to win more. Our girls are locked in and ready,” said Bailey.

BOYS

The Taylor boys start district action this coming Tuesday as they travel to face Lake Belton.

“Everything we have done to this point as far as how games are scheduled, how we practice and how we play is to get us prepared to compete in district,” said Taylor coach Brandon Greene. “I didn’t shy away from competition in our non-district schedule, and I don’t think our record is a true indicator of how well we have played at times. We are two overtime losses away from being a double-digit win team.”

The boys will be at home along with the girls on Jan. 18 against Burnet, one of only two times this season both the boys and girls will play at home on the same night. The Ducks have one additional district team to play in Gateway Prep who they host on Jan. 21.

The Ducks close January on the road against Salado and then Jarrell, then return to the pond to face Lake Belton on Feb. 1 before another two-game road trip against Burnet and Gateway Prep.

Taylor wraps the regular season at home with games against Salado and then Jarrell on Feb. 15.

“Our goal from the beginning of the year was to be a playoff team, which means we have to be a top 4 seed in district,” said Greene. “I think we have shown at our best we can do that. We struggle with being our best consistently and I think that’s going to be the key to us being a playoff team.”
