Rogers F (Sonny) Scruggs, of Thrall, went to be with the Lord Nov. 17, 2022. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Sonny was born in Bastrop County Feb. 6, 1935, to Horace and Lois (Cole) Scruggs. He graduated from Thrall High School. Sonny married his wife Betty Eschberger Jan. 5, 1959, and they were blessed with four children, Wynn, Stewart, Patty and Jackie.
Sonny served in the Army was a bridge welder and was a farmer. He is well known for raising watermelons.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Horace and Lois Scruggs; brothers, Pete, Wayne, Joyce and Kenneth; sister, Peggy Herrera; and a grandson Davey Roznovak.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty; brothers, Bobby and Preston; sister-inlaw, Viola; sons, Wynn and Stewart; daughters, Patty and Jackie; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and good friend Charles McCoy A memorial service is pending.
