The Hutto Hippos volleyball team season has come to an end but they had some players named to a high honor.

The season may be over for the Hippos but the celebration for these players continues as these young athletes achieved high honors of All-Academic, first and second team All-District teams with a couple of honorable mentions.

Starting with the All-Academic team the Hippos had 11 players and three managers selected to this team. To make this team players need to maintain a 90% or higher in their core classes while committing fully to whatever team they are on.

This is one of the hardest goals to achieve with the demanding schedule sports teams have as well as the attention school work needs. These players played all season at a high level and took care of business in the classroom as well.

The Hippos selected for the All-Academic team were, Macie Atkinson, Cori Babb, Jayanna Davis, Adrianna Gonzalez, Brittany Haberer, Kamryn Haynes, Isabella Orton, Tirzah Pitt, Arianna Turnipseed, Carolina Vogelpohl, Charlize Williams, Alyssa Gallegos, Le’loni Mullen and Michelle Udenenwu.

Haynes and Gallegos were selected to the All-Academic team for the Texas Girls Coaches Association and THE Texas High School Coaches Association to cap off the season.

The Hippos were not done with post season honors as they had two players each in the honorable mention, second team All-District and first team All-District.

Hippos senior Adrianna Gonzalez and junior Hailey Bartley received honorable mentions for the All-District teams for their outstanding efforts this season. While seniors Akire Jones and Kamryn Haynes were voted to represent the Hippos on the second All-District team.

The first All-District team is an extremely high honor to receive and the Hippos had two players named to the team. Sophomore Isabella Orton and senior Arianna Turnipseed were the two players named to the first All-District team to represent the Hippos.

Orton and Turnipseed were key pieces for the Hippos throughout the season playing a large amount of time for the team. The pair played in every situation for the Hippos this season and came up big when asked.

Turnipseed’s senior season was also emphasized with the first team All-District selection but also achieved another big milestone during the season. Turnipseed was able to reach the 1,000-assist milestone during the season and put a big exclamation point on her senior season.
