Community comes together for last concert of the fall Music on Main series

Despite the cold, The Taylor community celebrated together Thursday, Nov. 17 in their beanies and blankets with the R & B and funk group Honey Made for the conclusion of the fall Music on Main Concert series at Heritage Square Park.

Despite the cold, The Taylor community celebrated together Thursday, Nov. 17 in their beanies and blankets with the R & B and funk group Honey Made for the conclusion of the fall Music on Main Concert series at Heritage Square Park.

“I’m pretty impressed that there are this many people here and it’s this cold,” said JD Gins, who showed up with wife Megan Klein to give away free beer from their business, Texas Beer Company, to express their appreciation to the organizers of this event series. “The Taylor (Public Arts Advisory Board) is doing a great job.”

Taylor should get out and support the arts,” Gins added. “This amphitheater is really cool. More people are becoming aware. Lots of different groups are doing different things, and more should take advantage of it.”

Though the air was chilly, people danced to the eclectic funk styles of Honey Made as some sipped on free hot chocolate and ate cookies from the table of Tierra Grande Real Estate, one of the sponsors of the series.

Tierra Grande Partner Julie Downs said Music on Main has been a hit but gave the board all the credit.

“It was all them,” Downs said with a laugh. “All I do is write the check and show up.”

Co-chair Janetta McCoy said this series has become an important unifying force in the community.

“The arts council has built something really special,” McCoy said. “I see a lot of my friends here, but we see the whole community coming out because we play a diverse selection of music.

McCoy said the different musical genres of the series, which also has included Czech music, reflect the rich cultural heritage of Taylor’s community.

But, due to the high quality of the musical performances, there is always something for everyone to enjoy, she added.

“It’s always good, no matter your preference,” McCoy said. “You are going to have a good time.”

Taylor resident Amanda Sands said she has enjoyed all three of the concerts in the series — but Honey Made and the night’s brisk air were a perfect ending.

“I love it,” Sands said. “We have been to all of them. But this weather is my favorite. I wish it were always this cold.”
