THREE ARRESTED ON WEAPONS CHARGES AT HUTTO SCHOOL
HUTTO – Three teenagers were arrested on weapons charges in the Hutto High School parking lot Thursday, Nov. 3. The arrests were made during a varsity football game at Memorial Stadium. A spectator alerted a Hutto Independent School District police officer to the possible presence of a gun in the parking lot and individuals having a verbal altercation.
While searching for the reported offenders, Hutto ISD police officers discovered a group of people smoking marijuana in front of Hutto High School.
The individuals fled the scene, and a search was conducted by Hutto Police Department and Hutto ISD Police. Three individuals ages 17, 17 and 16, were found in a vehicle in the school parking lot. The youths are not Hutto ISD students.
Three guns were found in the vehicle, including one that Austin Police Department confirmed as being a stolen weapon. The 17-yearolds were taken to Williamson County jail and the 16-year-old was remanded to a juvenile detention center. All three were arrested on charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon in a prohibited place.
YOUTH DUCKS CAPTURE FIRST EVER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
With the clock winding down, coaches and players on the Taylor Youth Ducks varsity football team took the top off the water cooler and dumped it on head coach Quincy Griffin’s head, signifying their Tri-County Youth Football League Super Bowl Championship victory Saturday night.
The Youth Ducks defeated the Little River-Academy Bumblebees by a score of 26-0 to claim their first ever State Championship in program history. It was also Griffin’s late mother’s birthday, which made Saturday night even more special.
Most Valuable Player awards on offense and defense were given out after the game as well with the Youth Ducks claimed both. Jeremiah Caldwell walked away with the Offensive Super Bowl MVP while Adrian Proctor walked away with the Defensive Super Bowl MVP award.
The Youth Ducks gave the city of Taylor their second-ever football State Championship and will go down in the history books along with O.L. Price as State Champions.
CONSTRUCTION KICKED OFF MONDAY FOR DOWNTOWN IMPROVEMENTS
Projects will include striping for additional parking spaces, updated landscaping, signage, and the installation of permanent street features on the northwest corner of Second and Main streets.
According to the city, construction will be completed by the Spring of 2023 and will only cause minimal disruption to residents’ daily commute through town, despite continuing through the holidays.
The final plans for the downtown improvements were presented to City Council in a public meeting in May of this year and put out for bid over the summer.
Funding was approved by City Council in a public meeting Sept.
22. The improvements will be paid out of the City’s Capital Improvement Project fund.

TAYLOR VETERANS 5K BEER RUN RAISES THOUSANDS FOR TAYLOR CHARITIES
About 80 runners/ beer enthusiasts turned out for the fifth annual Taylor Veterans 5K Beer Run hosted by the American Legion Graham D. Luhn Post 39 in Taylor.
Participants enjoyed four-ounce tasters along the 3.1-mile course of different flavors of beer from the Texas Beer Company.
Though final numbers have not yet been tallied, the proceeds from the race brought it between $8,000 – $10,000 this year for several Taylor-based charitable causes, including the Taylor Educational Enrichment Foundation, a scholarship for a Taylor High School graduate, and a veterans crisis fund.
