HUTTO – Hutto scared up more than fifty local homeowners for the inaugural Halloween House Decorating Contest. The Parks and Recreation department sponsored the ghoulish contest. Volunteer judges went to every home entered and came up with a list of winners in four spooktastic categories.
“It’s amazing to see the level of commitment and creativity that homeowners have put into this contest,” said Jeff White, Parks and Recreation superintendent. “Parks and Rec is about enhancing the quality of life, and doing events like this brings smiles to people’s faces.”
The winners were announced at the annual Frights at Fritz Halloween event on Saturday, Oct. 29. Frights at Fritz is a long-established family fest involving participation from many community partners. It features everything expected at a typical Halloween event including games, candy, a hayride, bounce house, music and more.
“This year Frights at Fritz had a sensoryfriendly time set aside at the beginning to help kids who experience sensory overload. We turned off the music and spaced everything out so that we could be more inclusive and all kids could enjoy the fun of Halloween,” White said.
Allison Strupeck, Public Information Officer, added that the city staff was excited to see Frights at Fritz and the Halloween House Decorating Contest take place this year. “We didn’t have much recreation during COVID so the last several months have been restoring some of these beloved events for our community postpandemic,” she said.
The spooky fun helps get people out of their houses and connecting with nature, promoting a healthy lifestyle which is part of the mission of Hutto Parks and Recreation. “We’re looking forward to continuing this year after year as part of what makes Hutto a great place to work and play,” White added.
