The Junior Women’s Study Club held its first meeting of the club year Oct. 13 at Lucky Duck restaurant. Hosting the meeting were Betty Hile, chairman; Edith Remmel, Cissie Pierce, Pat Werner and Janell Rohlack. Carla Tocquigny, Rohlack’s daughter, was her guest. The Halloween decor was entertaining and colorful, and some were from the hosts’ childhood collection.
President Anne Wentrcek conducted a brief business meeting.
She pointed out written minutes from the last meeting had been provided and Werner gave a summary of the account balances.
Members paid their yearly dues and received their yearbooks. Earlier, Remmel prayed for families of members lost through death and for members experiencing illness.
The speaker, Devin Padavil, superintendent of Taylor Independent School District, was introduced by Tim Crow, the communications and community liaison for the district.
Padavil discussed the school bond issue and reminded members the election is Nov. 8. He also pointed out, due to Samsung’s arrangements, no tax increases will be necessary for Taylor residents. The $82.47 million in bonds, if passed, will see improvements in all schools and updates in safety and security, which are of utmost concern. Future growth is also seen as an issue and land acquisition is a component. Learn more at www.taylorisd.org/ apps/pages/2022bond.
