The Taylor Youth Ducks varsity team will be competing for the Texas Youth Football League Championship this Saturday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. at the Duck Pond.
The Youth Ducks defeated rival Rockdale in the semi-finals last Saturday to earn the opportunity to play against the Academy Bumblebees for the State Championship. Youth Ducks head coach Quincy Griffin said he is extremely proud of his team to make it to this point and can’t wait to see his team in action on Saturday. “We are so proud of these boys. From the spring 7 on 7 season back in April and May to the first day of practice on August 1st, these boys and coaches have had to grind it out through the sweltering heat, through sickness, and other adverse circumstances. They have never given up and have remained lock in during each contest,” Griffin said.
Griffin knows that it takes a village to have a successful football team and took time to thank the parents of his players for they have done for the team this season.
“Our parents have been phenomenal in their support of the boys. It has truly been a season to remember, and now the boys have an opportunity to get another shot a TYFL Championship at home in Taylor at the pond, how cool is that,” Griffin said.
Looking ahead to the championship game Griffin said his team will have their hands full but expects the fans to be out in full force.
“We know the game will be physical when Academy and our Ducks line up on Saturday evening. Come out Taylor and support our boys!
It’s free to get in and we would love Duck Nation’s energy in the stands,” Griffin said.
The Duck Pond will be hosting six games throughout the day on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. and concluding with the Youth Ducks championship game. There will be no charge to get into the game but concessions will be sold and parking and seating will only be available on the home team side.
