THRALL — A 21-year veteran volunteer for Thrall Independent School District was among 15 other recipients named for the 2022 Heroes for Children Award from the State Board of Education.
Carolyn Holubec, who has served on the Parent Teacher Organization for Thrall’s elementary and secondary campuses, as well as a band boosters club member and most recently as the president of the Thrall Community Education Foundation, received the honor Oct. 19.
According to school officials, “In her duties as a volunteer, Holubek recruited members of the community to become active participants in the foundation and helped raise over $250,000 in funds for student scholarships and teacher grants. So far, the foundation has awarded over $100,000 in student scholarships and $40,000 in teacher grants.”
Holubec, along with three other Thrall Independent School District volunteers who had received the award in previous years, were honored Oct. 21 during the halftime of the Thrall versus Thorndale football game “This is Thrall ISD’s fourth time receiving the honor over the past 11 years for District 10 of the State Board of Education,” said Superintendent Tommy Hooker. “We are truly proud of our volunteers and the thousands of hours they have given to our Thrall Community.”
Established in 1994, the Heroes for Children Award is designed to recognize excellence in advocacy for education and to highlight the many outstanding volunteers whose efforts represent significant contributions to public school systems in Texas.
Since its inception, the award has provided a means to recognize Texas residents who render selfless acts of service by offering their time, effort, and support to public schools and students. The award honors volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to student learning or who have demonstrated sustained periods of involvement and support of public education. Each year, the 15-member Board recognizes one Hero from each of their districts.
