Fields joins Commanders’ practice squad

WASHINGTON – Taylor native DaMarcus Fields is still living his dream in the NFL.

After a brief stint with the New Orleans Saints, Fields has been added to the Washington Commanders practice squad.

Fields, a 2016 Taylor High School graduate, played his entire collegiate career at Texas Tech with 223 tackles and four interceptions. He was a four-time all-conference selection and finished as of the team’s top tacklers as a freshman and junior.

As a senior, Fields' 11 pass breakups ranked fourth in the FBS. For his college career, Fields recorded 49 pass breakups to go with four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He also had 13.5 tackles for loss in 55 games.

Fields went undrafted and signed as a free agent to the New Orleans Saints. He was waived and joined the team’s practice squad the next day.

He was later moved up to the main roster in week three against the Carolina Panthers and made his debut in the game. He appeared in two games with the Saints. He was a contributor on special teams for a combined 26 snaps.

He was later moved back to the practice squad and waived Oct. 4.

Fields was picked up by the Washington Commanders practice squad Oct. 26.
