NGINES

It may be election season, but Saturday will be a day to put political differences aside in Taylor as the community comes together for cool cars, Elvis, and cold Texas beer.

The Ninth Annual Main Street Car Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 in downtown Taylor featuring hundreds of cars of every make and models.

“The car show is growing every year,” said District 4 Councilman Robert Garcia, a car enthusiast and member of the organizing committee. “If you have never been to the car show before, you need to come out. We have everything from a 1903 Olds to 2022 McLarens. There is just something for everybody to enjoy.”

“The Taylor Car Show is one of the best car shows in the region,” said Jesse Ancira, the former mayor of Taylor. “In addition to getting to see unique cars of all makes and models, visitors and Taylor residents have an opportunity to celebrate our wonderful downtown and to enjoy good food and beverages during the event.”

“It is another high-quality event that highlights the community of Taylor,” Ancira added.

Main Street Manager Jan Harris said the event was on track to be one of the biggest yet.

“We have 256 pre-registered vehicles so far, and that is ahead of last year’s preregistrations at this time,” she said. “The majority of cars come in on the day of the show so I am expecting a very large show this year, maybe the biggest yet.”

Organizer Jeff Snyder, owner of Jeff’s Resurrections in Taylor, said a 1903 Curved Dash Oldsmobile is one restoration-in-progress that he is working on that will be available for all to see.

“We are going to push it up the street so people can see it,” Snyder said. “It’s just a very unique vehicle.”

In addition to cars, attendees can also enjoy dozens of vendors featuring everything from barbecue, tacos, lemon bars and beer to handmade jewelry, dog treats and accessories for cars. Live music at the event will include Honeymade, Blaggards, Gabor Nicholson, Bro Stone and Elvis.

“Volunteers will be coming out from all organizations,” Garcia said. “We have youth getting their Silver Cord requirements to help some of the people from the local churches … It really displays the camaraderie of the community. I really can say on that day everybody puts politics aside. Everybody puts their differences aside, and we all come out just to come together as a community and to put on our best forward face to let everybody know they are welcome in Taylor.”
