Rhonda Redden (Republican Party)

Redden is running for election for the Precinct 4 judge of the Williamson County Justice of the Peace. She is on the ballot in the general election Nov. 8.

1. Why are you running?

I am firmly committed to giving taxpayers a better value for their tax dollar. In 2021, the JP4 court handled approximately 3,100 cases, while the JP3 court handled approximately 16,000. The JP4 court is not performing efficiently and does not produce effective results. Relationships with partner agencies and citizens are suffering as a result. As an area law enforcement professional, I have witnessed conduct that does not reflect the stature of a JP court. I will establish a reputation for the JP4 court worthy of community respect and will never forget this court’s purpose is to serve the citizens of Williamson County.

2. What sets you apart from the other candidate(s)?

Experience and education. My 31 years in multiple areas of city and county government and as a law enforcement professional, coupled with my education in governmental administration and law, has prepared me for the role of JP. Not only do I understand court processes, but I also understand relationships with agency partners and the community, the need for fiscal responsibility and how to manage a departmental budget, and how to lead employees through the inevitable changes that Precinct 4 will experience.

3. Are there concerns in the county you feel have not been addressed?

Regarding the JP4 office, my biggest concern is the political activism occurring from the bench. If I am elected as the next JP4, I will follow the law. I am singularly focused on dedication to due process and procedural fairness and fulfilling the duties of the JP4 office with efficiency and professionalism.

4. What do you believe is the biggest issue in this race?

Getting the court working at its full potential. The JP4 court has long been underperforming in processing of cases. Precinct 4 is experiencing substantial growth and that growth will only continue to increase. It is imperative we have a JP that can lead the court through the growth that is inevitable. Our current rate of court performance is not sustainable, and our current JP is not ready to lead the court into the future.

5. Why should people vote for you?

I am prepared to bring a new level of performance and professionalism to the JP4 court. We will be focused on the basics and executing them well. Once we have established more efficient processes and accountability to those who need the court, we will expand into programs beneficial to the public such as Teen Court and mentoring programs for our atrisk youth.
