$82 million road project to begin near Samsung facility

The Texas Department of Transportation and Williamson County are set to break ground on an $82 million road-widening project at FM 3349 at US 79, near the site of the new Samsung Austin Semiconductor fabrication facility.

The Texas Department of Transportation and Williamson County are set to break ground on an $82 million road-widening project at FM 3349 at US 79, near the site of the new Samsung Austin Semiconductor fabrication facility.

Texas Transportation Commission Chairman J. Bruce Bugg, Jr., Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell, and Williamson County Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles, will have a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 12365 US 79 in Taylor.

According to county officials, the project includes widening the undivided two-lane road of 3349 and 101 into a four-lane divided road, constructing an elevated crossing over 79 and the Union Pacific Railroad, and constructing a localaccess road “jug-handle” ramp to provide connectivity between 79 and 3349 and 101.

The cost of the road widening project and crossing will be funded by TxDOT. Williamson County contributed $20 million for the planning, design, and rightof- way acquisition with voterapproved 2019 Road Bonds.
