HUTTO – The Hutto Lady Hippos were defeated by the Copperas Cove Lady Bulldawgs 3-0 Friday night. The Lady Hippos lost 26-24, 25-20 and 26-24 in a five-set match. Communication was a problem for the Hutto Friday night. On several occasions, there were a group of Lady Hippos calling for the ball, which would land right in the middle of them.

“We talked about that in the huddle,” Lady Hippos head coach Andre Daversa said. “I told them there should be three or four of you trying to hit the ball, not no one hitting the ball and it falls right in the middle if us.”

Daversa said despite the communication issues, he liked his team’s intensity Friday night.

“They were very intense, at this point last season their season was pretty much over,” Daversa said. “Some of this is still new to them but I liked how they competed tonight.”

The Lady Hippos still have a chance to punch their ticket to the postseason but will need help from other teams. Midway (Waco) and Copperas Cove would have to beat Bryan to solidify their spot in the playoffs.

But if that does not happen, the Lady Hippos would have to win a play-in game to clinch their spot.

“We still have some ball to play, we just have to wait and see what situation we are in,” Daversa said.
