The Taylor Ducks have won a district game for the first time since Nov. 9, 2018.

The Ducks defeated Marble Falls 42-26 Friday night at the Duck Pond. Friday’s win keeps the Ducks playoff hopes alive and puts them in a position to clinch a spot without having to rely on other teams.

“Playoff hopes are still alive, and the good news is it looks like we control our own destiny,” Houston said.

The Ducks changed their offensive game plan and elected to play with a faster tempo. Speedy threats for the Ducks like Jarvis Anderson, Ryan Valdez, Jackson Meller and Andrias Fisher all had big games because of the up-tempo offense the Ducks were running.

The switch proved very fruitful for the Ducks as they were able to utilize their speed and rip off multiple plays for 50 or more yards. Anderson ran in a 60-yard touchdown off of a wide receiver screen. Meller followed Anderson’s big play with a 49-yard touchdown run of his own. The cherry on top came from Valdez as he took a quarterback run 75 yards for the last Duck touchdown of the night.

“The players did a real good job of being dialed in with what we were doing, and kudos to the guys upstairs for getting us the looks we wanted,” Houston said.

The offense was aided by the Ducks defense, making multiple key stops throughout the game that set up the offense in scoring position.

“We didn’t want to be in a spot where it was like ‘here we go again,’ so we had to buckle down and make a stop and the defense came up huge in the fourth quarter,” Houston said.

The defensive line and line backers lived in Marble Falls’ back field. The Ducks corner backs and safeties had excellent coverage allowing more time for the pass rush to make plays.
