The Public Arts Advisory Board is excited to invite the public to grab a blanket, chair and a picnic basket to celebrate the city’s Czech heritage at the next Music on Main event at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Square Park.

“It’s an opportunity to meet other people and hear some good music,” said Janetta McCoy, the vice chair of the advisory board. “We go to a lot of trouble to find good bands at a price we can afford. There are some folks who have been very generous to help sponsor this so that we have money to help pay the musicians, bring in the lights, and the sound system, and all that sort of thing.” Organizers said the event is free and family friendly. “It’s turning into a nice evening of picnics and music, and it’s family and children and puppy dogs,” McCoy said.

This installation of the series, which happens the third Thursday of the month during the fall, will feature a celebration of the city’s Czech heritage, kicking off with Taylor Czech Chorus and followed by the Czech Melody Masters.

“The main feature will be the Czech Melody Masters, which is an oompah/ polka band,” McCoy said. “And prior to that, we will have the Taylor Czech Chorus, who are a group of Czech descendants who have been singing together singing traditional Czech songs, they have traveled all over the world with their music.”

The last performance in the fall series will be the funk and soul band Honey Made at 7 p.m. on Nov. 17. McCoy said the committee tries to reflect the cultural diversity of the city through the different musical acts. “The whole idea is sometimes we focus on one part of the community, and the next time we focus on the next part of the community,” McCoy said. “(This month) we are focusing on the Czech and German heritage that make Taylor what it is today. But it’s fun. People get out and they dance.”
