Get your motor running for a day of Model A Fords, Ferraris, hot rods, muscle cars and so much more.
The ninth annual Taylor Main Street Car Show, the largest of its kind in Central Texas, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday Oct. 29 on Main Street in downtown Taylor. “There’s something for everyone,” said Jeffrey Snyder, founder of Jeff’s Resurrection in Taylor and a car show volunteer. “I am actually a full-time auto restorer, and a number of years ago, when we started this event, myself and a number of car people thought what better way to give back to our community than to invite a few hundred of our car friends to downtown Taylor and also to promote our historic Main Street.”
Since then, the number of attendees has swelled to the thousands and features hundreds of models of cars.
“Last year, we had more than 700 cars and approximately eight to nine thousand people come to downtown Taylor,” said District 4 Councilman Robert Garcia. “People should come out to check out all the different cars and explore those moments of nostalgia.”
Organizer Jan Harris said she had 256 preregistered vehicles so far, which is ahead of last year’s pre-registrations at this time.
“The majority of cars come in on the day of the show,” Harris said. “So, I am expecting a very large show this year – maybe the biggest yet.”
Snyder said some cool highlights visitors can expect to see include a 1928 Packard and a 1902 Oldsmobile.
“It will be just stuff that you have only read or heard about, never seen in person,” Garcia added. “So, that’s something you can check off your bucket list.”
In any case, many people enjoy seeing cars from their youth, Garcia said. “We hear a lot of that when people come to the car show, ‘Oh, I used to have that when I was in high school, or my best friend Jimmy had that car, and I remember cruising up and down going to Top Notch Burgers on Saturday night,’” Garcia said. “So, we should come out, not just to see the cars, but hear the stories, but also hear the story of downtown Taylor, Texas.”
In addition to cars, this family-friendly event will include live music from Honeymade, Blaggards, Gabor Nicholson, Bro Stone and Elvis, shopping, food trailers and cold Texas beer.
Admission to the car show is free. To register a car in advance, the fee is $15 or $25 the day of the event. Car show participants should arrive by 9 a.m., and the earliest cars get the best parking spots. For advance registration, go to https://www.eventbrite. com/.../2022-mainstreet- car-show.
