Free shuttle service, other traffic changes ahead of car show, rodeo, early voting

A lot will be happening the last weekend of the month, and people will need help getting place to place. Area leaders teamed up with Capital Area Rural Transportation System to address the situation.

This year, the 2022 Main Street Car Show will be the same day as the Williamson County Fair and Rodeo, and early voting. On Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CARTS will run shuttles to and from in front of the Taylor Post Office, 202 W. Fourth St., and the Williamson County Expo Center.

“The car show and the rodeo have worked together to set up CARTS to transport people back and forth between downtown and the Williamson County Expo Center, so you can enjoy both events,” said District 4 Councilman Robert Garcia. “We have already worked with them to have two actual buses and two vans going back and forth. But also, that Saturday is early voting, so no matter where you are at in Taylor or the rodeo, you can either walk to or get a ride.”

According to Main Street Manager Jan Harris, to access early voting, people can get to the city hall parking lot off Washburn Street and park on the south side across from Lucky Duck Cafe. Voters may enter city hall via the south sliding doors, and voting will be held in the auditorium.

Harris said there will be ample parking for voters to conveniently access the city hall, but that they can also choose to park at the Expo Center and use the shuttle to get downtown.

Large sections of the downtown will be barricaded starting at 6 a.m., Harris said.

In addition, no on-street parking will be allowed on Washburn Street between Seventh and Second streets starting Friday, Oct. 28 after 10 p.m. Signs will be posted, and towing will be enforced.
