The front lawn of Old Taylor High was transformed into a scene from the fictional Sacred Heart High School’s pep rally for “Walker,” a remake of the popular 1990s series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” starring Chuck Norris, last week.
Cast, extras and crew could be seen hanging out in the upstairs auditorium of the 1923 high school building Sept. 21 while waiting for their turn on the set and milling through the halls of the historic building.
“They are getting ready for homecoming is the scene that they are doing out on the front lawn,” said Cliff Olle, owner of Old Taylor High. “It’s kind of cool.”
This incarnation of the series, which is in its third season, stars Jared Padalecki and Molly Hagan, and was filmed in several locations last week in Taylor, including at Louie Mueller Barbecue Sept. 20.
Several area residents took to Taylor Press’s Facebook page to express their enthusiasm for the show upon learning that it was being filmed nearby.
“I love this series. Can’t wait for the new season,” wrote one fan, and “JARED!!! Oh man!!! I love him!” intoned another.
According to Paul Knaus, from Eye Productions Inc., the crew greatly appreciates area residents and businesses allowing them to film here in Taylor.
“The film community continues to thrive in Central Texas because of the hospitality of its citizens, the diverse nature of its locations, and the generosity of its homeowners and tenants,” he said.
