TAYLOR STILL REMEMBERS FALLEN HEROES OF 9/11
For the 20th straight year, the Taylor Fire Department will host a solemn tribute to the fallen heroes who died in the tragedy on Sept.
11, 2001.
The Patriot Day Memorial March will begin at 7 p.m. this Sunday at Seventh and Davis streets and will continue down Main Street to Heritage Square for a program.
Citizens will line the street to observe the procession, which will include fire, police, military and emergency service personnel from Taylor, as well from departments all over Central Texas, including Jarrell, Lake Travis, Elgin, Coupland, Ranger and Weir. The featured speaker for this event will be Chief Chris Connealy, the senior director of Williamson County Emergency Services.
In addition, District 4 Councilman Robert Garcia will give the welcome address, Jarrell Fire Department Chief Mark McAdams the invocation, Pastor Jeff Ripple of Christ Fellowship Church the benediction, and Renvie Crain will perform the national anthem.

CALLING ALL DUCKS FOR HOMECOMING 2022
After a two-year absence due to COVID, all Duck grads are invited to a long list of festivities that will occur over homecoming weekend with a full day of activities on Friday, Sept. 23. The celebration begins at 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 21, with a community pep rally at Heritage Square. School groups will parade in from fifth street and lead the community in songs and
cheers. At 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, doors to the KC Hall will open for visiting and refreshments. A chopped beef sandwich lunch will be served at 11:15 for $10 per plate, with tickets available at the door.
This year’s honor classes include those missed during the pandemic as well as current honorees. Those are the classes ending in 0 and 5, 1 and 6, and 2 and 7. The program will begin at 12:15 p.m. and includes a variety of entertainment and sharing of memories from the good old days. Highlights include the Duck Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the Taylor High School mascot reunion, former cheerleaders leading a traditional cheer and a tribute to “Mama Duck” Naomi Pasemann.
FATAL COLLISION RESULTS IN TWO DEAD, ONE IN CUSTODY
On Monday, Sept.
5, at 6:16 p.m., Taylor Police received a 911 call reporting the collision in the 600 block of Carlos Parker Blvd. SW, at the intersection of FM 973. The preliminary investigation revealed that a silver 2005 Dodge Pickup truck driven by John Crayton Jr., 40, of Austin, was travelling north in the 100 block of FM 973 when he entered the intersection of Carlos Parker Blvd. SW and struck a 2013 Toyota Avalon driven by Christopher Ali Vassef, 38, of Elgin.
Leonora Naomi Soriano, 39, of Elgin, was a passenger in the vehicle with Vassef.
Vassef and Soriano were pronounced dead on the scene. An investigation revealed Crayton was operating the vehicle while intoxicated and failed to stop at the red traffic control signal. A total of four vehicles were involved in the collision.
Crayton was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter, a second- degree felony.
This is the second fatal collision in Taylor this year.
