County Judge lifts burn ban

WILCO – After two months of severe drought conditions, the burn ban in the county has ended. On Wednesday, Aug. 24, Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell lifted the burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Williamson County.

“Due to the recent rains and higher humidity levels, I am lifting the burn ban; however, if the weather continues to be warm and dry, the burn ban could be implemented again as early as next week, so please burn while conditions are favorable,” Gravell said. On June 21, The Williamson County Commissioners Court issued a county-wide burn ban for a period not to exceed 90 days due to severe drought conditions, above average heat, low humidity, low fuel moistures and high winds that are creating dangerous wildfire conditions that would be exacerbated by outdoor burning.

The order reaffirms Gravell’s June 14 local state of disaster declaration that initially prohibited outdoor burning.

Although the ban has been lifted, county officials advise citizens to be cautious with any outdoor burning activitiy.

Outdoor burning must be conducted under state regulations found in Texas Administrative Code Section 30 TAC § 111.219. Prior to conducting control burns, please take the following steps: Please contact your local fire department, some departments may require a Burn Permit.

Please contact Williamson County Communications, please call and report your control burn to Williamson County Communications at 512-864-8282.

Williamson County Communications should be able to inform you of any burning restrictions that Williamson County Communications has been made aware of and that may exist.
