To return to tradition in an era of modernization, a meeting Thursday could show how that might be achieved.

On Aug. 18, the Taylor City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission will hold a joint meeting to discuss and possibly direct city staff regarding the development ordinances update project.

Consulting firm Simplecity Design will be in attendance.

Discussion revolves around the city’s Envision Taylor Comprehensive Plan, the primary policy document for the city to guide development, transportation, utilities and other capital improvements. The document guides the municipality with a vision, goals, objectives and actions deemed necessary to direct the city’s long-range growth and development.

The plan calls for a return to traditional development patterns that define Taylor’s historic downtown and adjacent neighborhoods. An implementation strategy is entitled “Update Development Standards to Support Centers and Infill.”

Matt Lewis, Simplecity Design founder and president, will talk about the status of the project, public meetings thus far and any outstanding issues that need to be addressed. Based on the presentation in the agenda packet for Thursday’s meeting, available on the city’s website, Simplecity Design will seek direction on the zoning and place types, RV parks, parking, duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, a property’s detached secondary living space, manufactured housing, the city’s restricted growth sector and infrastructures by place type.

The council meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Taylor Public Library, 801 Vance St., in the front meeting room. Those wishing to address the council have a three-minute limit and must sign up by 5:45 p.m.

The council agenda and live video stream of the meeting can be found at http://www. taylortx.gov.
