A scary crash resulted in no injuries last Tuesday. On Aug. 9 at 10:30 p.m., Williamson County Emergency Services District #10 responded to a commercial vehicle fire on FM 1331 in Hare.
An 18-wheeler carrying baled corn stalks reportedly hit a deer which caused a mechanical problem, starting a fire. The driver was uninjured. “It took until approximately 3 a.m. to clear all the round bales from the vehicle and roadway, with tractor, skid steer and manual effort,” said Williamson County ESD #10 in a statement on their Facebook page. “Shortly after the vehicle was removed and TxDOT arrived on scene to assess and repair the road surface. ESD #10 cleared the scene around 5 a.m.”
When the call for the fire first rang out, fire units from Thrall arrived at the fire before being backed up Coupland firefighters.
“These people and apparatus were able to tackle the initially intense fire,” said ESD #10 personnel. “During this seven-hour scene, we had 14 ESD #10 firefighters on scene.”
Weir Volunteer Fire Department and the Taylor Fire Department also responded to assist.
