Several Taylor nonprofit organizations visited the 5th and Vance Events center Thursday to see how neighborly their gigantic new neighbor might be with more than a welcome pie.
On Aug. 4, Samsung Austin Semiconductor hosted an information session regarding $150,000 in company funds allocated for local charities.
“Beginning this year, Samsung Austin Semiconductor will be making annual charitable contributions to the Taylor community averaging at least $300,000 each year,” said Samsung in a statement. “The (Taylor municipal government) will receive $150,000 to allocate and Samsung will allocate the remaining amount. Donations will be focused on orgs that provide services for the civic and community development of Taylor.”
More than 52 people attended to learn about how they can apply for funding.
“The city of Taylor, the residents of Taylor are so generous and opened their arms up to Samsung,” said Michele Glaze, Samsung director of corporate public affairs and community liaison. “We’re trying to work to have a very beneficial relationship between the community and Samsung.”
Samsung has been performing outreach in the community as construction continues at its planned manufacturing plant in southwest Taylor.
Area nonprofits need to submit their application by Aug. 15 for this year’s funds.
“We will start talking about the 2023 process no later than January. It’ll be a similar process, but again we want to continue to have these conversations with the charities,” said Glaze. “We’ll also probably post a couple of other educational sessions about what nonprofit looks like to help education and awareness about effective nonprofits for the citizens of Taylor.”
