Competitors and judges are still being sought for Taylor’s upcoming global event.
The Taylor International Barbecue Cookoff (TIBC), held since 1978, will be at Murphy Park in Taylor Aug. 19-20. Competitor and judge slots were available as of last week.
“For those wanting to compete, please have your team turn in your application as soon as possible,” said the TIBC committee on its Facebook page July 31. “We still need some judges.”
Cooking categories are beef brisket, pork ribs, chicken and Cook’s Choice with optional categories of bean jackpot, margarita and kids grilled cheese. Each category, except Cook’s Choice, must be turned in as barbecued meat, unstuffed and unwrapped to be judged. Entries will be judged on taste, appearance and texture on a 1-10 scale. Entrance into an optional category is contingent on entrance into at least one main cooking category.
There will be trophy and prize money for first place, second place, third place, master cook and reserve master cook. A trophy will also go to the best judged rig. Cookoff areas will be 35 feet by 30 feet.
Entry fees are $100 for one or all categories. The bean jackpot, margarita and kids grilled cheese categories have $10 fees.
