On July 29, Hutto moved to Stage 3 water conservation restrictions as defined by Hutto city ordinance, to stay in compliance with water provider contracts.

The main differences between Stage 2 and Stage 3 rules in Hutto are that hoseend sprinklers can no longer be used and hand-held watering outdoors is now limited to designated days. The allowable watering hours for Stage 3 are 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on designated days.

The move to Stage 3 is required under the city’s contract with one of its two outside water providers, Manville Water Supply Corporation (WSC). According to Hutto city staff, Manville and its providers recently experienced a series of water line breaks and system failures, which prompted Manville to go to Stage 3 and triggered the contractual requirement that the City of Hutto do likewise. These restrictions will say in effect for Hutto water customers as long as Manville is at Stage 3.

Hutto residents and businesses who get their water from Manville WSC or Jonah Water Special Utility District should continue to adhere to the watering restrictions of their water provider.

“Hutto leaders recognize the need to become more water self-reliant,” said city staff in a press release, “which is one of the primary goals of water system improvements over the next few years.”

Hutto water customers are strongly encouraged to continue conserving water when bathing, cleaning and running household appliances like dishwashers and washing machines.
