MUCH TO CHEER FOR

St. Mary’s Catholic School cheer squad traveled to Georgetown for a National Cheerleaders Association summer day cheer camp at East View High School in July. The team had an impressive week returning with numerous awards.

St. Mary’s Catholic School cheer squad traveled to Georgetown for a National Cheerleaders Association summer day cheer camp at East View High School in July. The team had an impressive week returning with numerous awards.

The recognitions include first place in the Band Chant and Cheer categories. The group also won the Stunt S.A.F.E. Award, for the squad that demonstrated the most safety during stunt class, and the Herkie Team award, named after NCA founder L.R. Herkimer and awarded to squads who exemplify the qualities upon which the NCA was founded and is given to the most spirited squad, which is voted on by all the squads at camp. St. Mary’s received the spirit stick all three days of camp.

Rylie Minter was recognized for exhibiting “Why we need Cheerleaders” and given the Pin It Forward award. Julia Heyl, Minter and Scarlett Dahlberg were nominated to try out for the coveted all-American team.

Cheer captain Heyl was chosen as an all-American and was the top-scoring cheerleader to compete for all-American for the second year in a row.

The St. Mary’s Catholic School 2022-23 cheerleaders are Heyl, Minter, Dahlberg, Lila Gonzalez, Bella Schwarz, Kensi Newland and Lydia Melcher.
