Granger ISD pauses, resumes Monday

An east Williamson County school district closed Thursday and Friday, Jan. 20-21, and neighboring districts monitored a winter weather event heading for the area.

On Wednesday, Jan. 19, Granger ISD announced that the school would be closed Thursday and Friday, Jan. 20-21. Classes will resume Monday, Jan. 24.

Although school was closed, Granger ISD still provided a free breakfast and lunch combo. Food pickup was in the back of the campus at the bus loop.

In a statement to CBS Austin, Director of Operations Mike Abbott said that the school closed due to “staffing and student attendance, community spread and surge of both flu and COVID-19 in addition to potential weather hazards.”

Neighboring school districts monitored possible winter weather that was on the way to Central Texas last week. A Winter Storm Watch was issued by the National Weather Service. No closures or changes were made at Taylor, Thrall or Hutto school districts.

“Weather and road conditions are not an issue this Friday morning, other than very cold temperatures,” said Thrall ISD last week. “All parents should still make sure that their phone numbers and email addresses are up-todate in their Ascender Parent Portal.”

Meanwhile, Hutto ISD resumed normal operations Thursday after classes had been canceled earlier in the week due to transportation staff shortages.

“Transportation service will continue to operate on a modified schedule, and those impacted will be contacted directly,” said Hutto ISD.
