Michelle’s Hot Peep Beat CC 5K/1K charity fun run is back in Murphy Park.
The 2022 edition marks the fifth year for the event which benefits the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, supporting those with this disease.
“Our first race in 2017 was extremely successful with over 100 seniors, adults, teens and little kids participating,” said John M. McDonald on behalf of the race committee. “In 2019, the race had over 180 participants and over 80 in an all virtual 2020 race. We are super excited to be back, in-person, in Murphy Park and can’t wait to reunite with everyone.”
This year, the race will be held Saturday, August 13. Packet pick-up is 6:30 AM at the pavilion in Murphy Park, located at 12th and Vance Street with race start time 7:30 a.m. The course will start in front of the pavilion in Murphy Park, follow the Hike ‘n Bike trail and extend across Mallard Lane. The return route will utilize the other part of the Hike ‘n Bike trail finishing at the original starting point. This is a chip-timed 5k Fun Run/Walk and Kids’ Dash (Kids of all ages).
Kona Ice will again provide free snow cones and Michael Craig be the MC and supply music.
Cholangiocarcinoma, CC, a highly lethal cancer with poor prognosis, arises from the bile ducts in the liver. It is often diagnosed at advanced stages when treatment is only minimally effective, emphasizing the imminent need for novel therapies. There are no effective strategies for prevention, early diagnosis or long-term treatment, indicating a significant unmet medical need.
100% of the net proceeds from our event will help The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, CCF, the leading global CC nonprofit, to fund research to find a cure and improve the quality of life for CC patients. This race is also in honor of Michelle McDonald who was taken at age 47 following a five-month battle with this disease. Michelle’s grim diagnosis came as a complete shock, providing no warning signs. The reality is, the “what we could do” was limited and disheartening.
Each and every donor plays a role in buying more time, more treatment options, and within the next 10 years…. finding a cure. Nationally, Walter Payton, Jim Mandich, Ray Manzarek, and Stefan Karl Stefansson are a few of the famous people who have died due to bile duct cancer. Started in 2018 by Michelle’s family and friends, this event is a means to ‘pay it forward’.
To be guaranteed a 2022 race shirt, participants need to register by August 1. Here is a link to participate in the race: https://www.athleteguild.com/running/taylor-tx/2022-michelles-hot-peeps-beat-cc.
We look forward to the challenge and celebration with you.
