Water leak Thursday prompts limits

Some area residents were asked to limit water consumption Thursday evening after a local water leak. On July 21, there was a water leak at the Brazos River Authority (BRA) East Williamson County Water Treatment Plant, according to BRA.

Some area residents were asked to limit water consumption Thursday evening after a local water leak.

On July 21, there was a water leak at the Brazos River Authority (BRA) East Williamson County Water Treatment Plant, according to BRA. At 4:44 p.m., an emergency notice was sent to water customers of Taylor, Jonah Water Special Utility District and the Lone Star Regional Water Authority to cease all non-essential water use to preserve existing capacity until the problem was fixed.

“The leak at the East Williamson County Regional Water Treatment Plant has been repaired,” said Judi Pierce, BRA public information officer, at 9:17 p.m., “and residents will have full water capability by midnight tonight.”

Businesses such as Skyline Laundry, a Taylor laundromat, temporarily closed due to the emergency. Businesses that have high water usage were asked to cease operations until the system fully charged. Skyline Laundry reopened the next day.

Granger outages

There have been water outages in Granger due to city improvements in progress.

On June 22, Granger’s community development block grant water valve project kicked off. Water valves have been added throughout the city’s water system to help city staff isolate smaller portions of the water system during water repair efforts.

Last week’s outages included areas south of Fox, south of Davilla, east of Willis streets and east of S.H. 95 July 20-21. After each outage, affected areas will be put under a boil water notice until lab results are confirmed. Water system officials are expected to notify residents when water is safe for consumption.

Drought Watch

“Please remember that the Brazos River Authority has implemented Stage 1 Drought Watch Condition for Granger Lake,” reminded Pierce, “which includes Taylor, Jonah Water SUD and Lone Star Regional Water Authority, and the BRA are asking consumers to continue to voluntarily reduce water usage by 5%.”

The drought watch is the result of the drier than normal conditions in this portion of the Brazos River basin and is a response to drought trigger levels established by the BRA’s Drought Contingency Plan.

Restrictions for Taylor customers are voluntary. For more information, visit http://www.brazos.org.

Jonah Water SUD, Hutto and Manville Water Supply Corporation currently have mandatory restrictions, which mostly pertain to outdoor water use. For water restrictions in the three districts, visit http:// www.huttotx.gov, http:// www.jonahwater.com and https://www.manvillewsc. org.
